TORONTO – The first tropical storm of the Pacific hurricane season formed Thursday and it’s expected to strengthen.

A tropical depression formed on Thursday, strengthening to a tropical storm later in the day.
As of Friday morning, Tropical Storm Andres had maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h with higher gusts. It was moving west-northwestward around 15 km/h.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Andres is expected to reach hurricane status later on Friday.
There were no coastal warnings or watches in place.
