The students connected with the athlete through the Classroom Champions program.

Shelley Scheibel is the teacher of the class and has seen the program work first hand.

“My favourite thing about when Michelle sent us a video about being a good leader, one of my students wrote that a good leader is not mean,” recalled Scheibel.

The program hasn’t just had a positive effect on the students, Salt is also benefiting.

“The kids are so great, every month I give them a challenge and they embrace it and it’s fun,” she said. “They really excite me and encourage me to do well at my sport.”

The Classroom Champions program runs in 130 schools across Canada, but Sacred Heart is the only participating school in Regina.
