TORONTO – A Toronto police officer faces an assault charge for allegedly injuring a man during an arrest last December.
A statement released by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said it has reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence was committed.
The alleged incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2014 when Baoshi Yang, 57, was arrested by officers in the area of Tracy Street and Queen Street East.
The man was later released and taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken orbital bone.
Constable Paul Walker faces one charge of assault causing bodily harm and is scheduled to make a court appearance on July 8.
The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
