WATCH: Public Hearings over controversial billboard in Beaconsfield

BEACONSFIELD – More than a hundred residents gathered at Beaconsfield  City Hall Monday night to voice their concerns over a proposed electronic billboard that’s set to go up near Highway 20.

The city is considering letting a private company build a high-definition electronic billboard on the corner of Beaurepaire Drive and  City Lane.

Residents enumerated a variety of problems with the project, including fears over road safety and visual pollution.

The city has been offered $300 thousand annually for ten years for the billboard.

“The tax that we would collect on a 100 new homes in Beaconsfield would be the equivalent of the $300 thousand,” Mayor Georges Bourelle told Global News.

A final decision on whether or not to approve the billboard will be made at the next city council meeting on June 15.
