TORONTO — The final numbers are not yet in — it’s Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. — but it looks like Tomorrowland will knock Pitch Perfect 2 out of the top spot at the box office.

The B.C.-shot Disney adventure starring George Clooney earned an estimated $32.2 million in its first three days, edging out last week’s champ, which made $30.3 million.

Despite being No. 1, Tomorrowland fell below expectations (it earned only $27 million in overseas markets).

Third place went to Mad Max Fury Road, which added $23.8 million in its second week. Globally, it has grossed more than $210 million.

In its fourth weekend, Avengers: Age of Ultron made $20.8 million — enough for fifth place.

The rest of this weekend’s top 10 consisted of Far From the Madding Crowd ($2.2 million), Furious 7 ($2.1 million), Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 ($1.7 million) and Home ($1.6 million).

Interestingly, two of the top 5 movies were made in Canada and two of the top 10 were directed by woman — Pitch Perfect 2 and Hot Pursuit (No. 6 with $3.4 million).

So far this year, only two female-directed movies have opened at No. 1 — Elizabeth Banks’ Pitch Perfect 2 and Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Fifty Shades of Grey.
