EDMONTON — With the temperature forecast to remain in the mid-20s for the next week, many Edmonton families may be looking to embrace — or beat — the heat at one of the city’s spray parks. They’re free to use and can be found in dozens of neighbourhoods.
If you’re looking for ideas, Edmonton blogger and mom Lori Godin, better known as Frugal Edmonton Mama, has put together her top-10 list of spray parks in and around the Capital Region.
Here are a few of her water winners:
KINSMEN SPRAY PARK
Located on Waterdale Hill in Kinsmen Park, this one earns the ranks as my top favourite spray park because of the fact that you can manipulate and move so many of the water features to have a fun spray while you’re there, and it’s big and located in one of my favourite parks in the city. It’s well worth the trip downtown; there’s free parking and you’re going to want to spend the better part of the day there. Walterdale Hill Park
CASTLE DOWNS SPRAY PARK
Bright colours, lots of green space and lots going on in the actual park are three of the reasons that this is one of the favourites in the city. Always filled with kids, the bright park is one that we stop into at least a few times during the summer months because of the awesome playground that surrounds the water park. It’s located at 11520 153 Ave.
HUDSON SPRAY PARK
This gem of a park has a nice amount of shade and a spray park that’s perfect for younger children, but the real gem is the accompanying playground close by. This was one of our picks for the top playgrounds of the year. We love it! 13625 Cumberland Road
CLOVERDALE SPRAY PARK
For younger children, Cloverdale spray park is a favourite. You can spend some time in the shade while the kids are playing in the regular park, and head over to the spray park to cool off. My daughter Olivia has named this the ‘mustache spray park,’ and it’s a great place to stop off if we’re running errands in the area. 9411 97 Ave NW
JACKIE PARKER SPRAY PARK
This park is a favourite of the younger kids we know, because of the fun, zoo-like features throughout and a toddler area for water play for the little kids that aren’t yet brave enough to run through the water. With a picnic area, and an enormous playground, it’s easy to spend the day there. 45th Avenue & 50th Street
