CALGARY – A 17-year-old girl who stabbed a young man to death at a house party two years ago has been sentenced as an adult.
Brett Wiese, 20, died after being stabbed in the back outside a Brentwood home on January 12th, 2013. Police said violence erupted when several uninvited party goers who had been ejected from the house later returned.
A 17-year-old girl was found guilty of second-degree murder in Wiese’s death.

On Wednesday, a judge ruled the girl – who previously could not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act – would be sentenced as an adult.
Jazlyn Radke, now 19, was sentenced to life in prison without any chance of parole for seven years.
Wiese’s mother read a statement outside court on behalf of the victim’s family.
“Brett Weise was viciously murdered by human hands,” said Brenda Weise. “Nothing will bring him back, and we know no human-imposed consequence will truly equal the magnitude of this crime.”
“We believe the true consequence for the murderer, Jazlyn Radke… will be beyond this earthly life,” she continued. “It is I, my husband and my daughter, our families and Brett’s friends that have really been given the life sentence.”
“There isn’t a criminal sentence on earth that equals the pain and despair that we live every single day.”
“He is deeply loved and deeply missed,” said Brenda of her son. “He has impacted many people in his short 20-and-a-half years, and he stood for gentleness, kindness and goodness in this world.”
Wiese came to the University of Calgary from Ponoka, and was a third-year Bachelor of Commerce student when he was killed.
