EDMONTON – A 41-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a man who was reported missing by his family late last week.
RCMP charged Gordon McGilvery Sunday with the death of 31-year-old Creedance Cardinal.
Cardinal’s mother reported his disappearance to police on Friday. He was last seen in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 14.
Police said Sunday their investigation indicated Cardinal was last seen at McGilvery’s home on the Saddle Lake Cree First Nation early that Thursday morning. The RCMP searched the home on Friday and located Cardinal’s remains in a secluded area of the property, officers said Sunday. RCMP said it appeared Cardinal was the victim of foul play.
An autopsy has been scheduled for early this week.
McGilvery has been taken into custody. He is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Tuesday.
The RCMP is not seeking any other suspects.
