Supporters and opponents weigh in on Peladeau’s PQ leadership win

WATCH ABOVE: Less than a day after Peladeau easily won the PQ leadership race, opponents were taking aim, accusing him of being anti-union and divisive.

QUEBEC – The political opponents of new Parti Quebecois (PQ) leader Pierre Karl Peladeau have begun sniping at him less than a day after his election victory.

Peladeau easily won the party’s leadership vote last night.

Premier Philippe Couillard and Francois Legault,  leader of the CAQ took to Twitter to congratulate Peladeau.

Legault tweeted that while he and Peladeau may have different political opinions, Peladeau’s commitment merits respect.

But some of their deputies were less congratulatory, taking aim at Peladeau’s pro-sovereignty views and refusal to sell his shares in media giant Quebecor.

Quebec’s labour minister accused Peladeau of being out of touch with Quebecers, who he says are more concerned with jobs than referendums.

The leaders of the Quebec Solidaire party also accused him of being anti-unionist and divisive.

Prominent PQ members on the other hand were quick to express support for Peladeau, who they hope can revive interest in Quebec’s
independence.

Peladeau has said his main goal is to make Quebec a country.
