Convicted N.S. murderer Chris Falconer going back to prison

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – Convicted murderer Christopher Alexander Falconer is headed back to prison.

The Pictou County, N.S. man pleaded guilty Monday to charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of marijuana.

Falconer, 29, was released on full parole in May 2010, after serving 12 years in prison for the second-degree murder of a cab driver in 1998. He was 15 years old at the time that he and Fraser Kennedy killed Robert Leblanc.

He will now continue serving his life sentence in New Brunswick’s Dorchester Penitentiary.

New Glasgow police arrested him Nov. 9, 2011 on Brother Street in New Glasgow. Officers reportedly searched Falconer and found three joints and a switchblade.

He also had a magazine with bullets for a 22-calibre gun, the New Glasgow news reports.

Falconer’s arrest happened at the same time as local police and RCMP were searching for clues in the Amber Kirwan homicide investigation.

Investigators discovered the 19-year-old’s body in a wooded property on Heathbell Road Nov. 5 – four weeks after she was last seen alive outside Dooly’s Pool Hall in New Glasgow.

Police and forensics officials seized a vehicle and searched a home and property on Hardwood Hill Road, not far from where Kirwan’s body was found, between Nov. 8 and Nov. 13.

The mini-home at 952 Hardwood Hill Rd. was rented by Alice Meier, Falconer’s former step-sister.

Police have never said there was a connection between Falconer’s arrest and Kirwan’s disappearance and murder.

The investigation is ongoing.

Because Falconer will continue serving his life sentence, additional time cannot be added. He will serve time for the new charges concurrently with his life sentence.
