PEI tourism guide redesigned after apparent bulge on cover

The original cover of the 2015 Prince Edward Island travel guide.

Up for a little jaunt to Prince Edward Island? The cover of the province’s new tour guide is raising… eyebrows.

The 2015 tourism guide is getting some unwanted attention after locals and social media users realized the man photographed on the cover, relaxing in the sun, appears to have a visible erection.

“Life is simply better when you add a little island,” reads the slogan on the guide.

The slogan appears on the cover, above the young couple relaxing on the beach, towels on their chairs, feet in the sand, a book in her lap, and a bulge in his.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The Guardian, a PEI newspaper, showed the cover to several locals and no one seemed to notice – at first.

“Oh my god,” one woman reportedly said. “Is that what I think it is?”

Another person said “he looks really happy to be here.”

The newspaper reported the government printed 150,000 English travel guides and approximately 34,000 French guides.

The PEI government did not respond to requests about whether the guide’s original cover was pulled. But The National Post reported the government has redesigned the questionable cover.  The cover of the online guide was different on Monday, and featured the Panmure Head Lighthouse erected in 1853.

Social media users joked about the tourism guide from what has been branded “the gentle island.”
