Annual Sikh parade floods northeast communities

CALGARY –  It’s our city’s second largest parade, following the Calgary Stampede.

The annual Nagar Kirtan parade saw about 40,000 people take to the streets in the communities of Martindale and Castleridge Saturday.

It began and ended at the Dashmesh Culture Centre, where a colorful display of religion, history, music, traditional martial arts, free food and Indian sweets were found.

The event also supports the 10th Annual Walking Away Hunger Campaign (WAH) to raise food and funds for the Calgary Interfaith food bank. To date, Sikh Youth Calgary has raised over $260,000 in cash and food donations for those in need.
