FREDERICTON – The New Brunswick government is parking its three bookmobiles that served readers in rural areas of the province.
Post-Secondary Education Minister Francine Landry says the aging vehicles only had about 800 active users and weren’t reliable in the winter months because of bad weather.

About 40,000 books were borrowed through the service annually.
She says the province will enhance its existing Book by Mail service that allows New Brunswickers to get library books sent directly to their mail box.
Landry says it costs the province $1 each way to mail library books.
She says the province will save $170,000 per year, and the three bookmobile employees will be offered other jobs in her department.
New Brunswick has 63 public libraries.
