TORONTO – The month of May seems to be trying to make up for what felt like a long winter, with the possibility of record-breaking temperatures across southern Ontario this weekend.
Temperatures throughout southern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area have steadily been rising over the week, but it’ll be downright sweltering as unseasonably hot weather descends on the region.
In Toronto, the mercury climbed to 24.1 C on Thursday. But warmer weather is on its way: Environment Canada is calling for a high of 27 C on Friday. The daytime high is normally 18 C. And there’s a chance that the record of 27.7 C — set in 2007 — could be broken. That chance of record-breaking temperatures exists across the region.

Environment Canada has already issued a special weather statement for the region as humidex values are expected to be in the low- to mid-30s beginning on Friday. However, the criteria for a heat warning — temperatures of 30 c or more and humidex values of 40 C or more — will not be met.
However, that hot and humid weather will also usher in the chance of some thunderstorms on Saturday and more rain on Sunday through Monday.
And don’t expect the hot weather to last: Temperatures will drop to more seasonal values by Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in Calgary, it’s expected to snow.
