EDMONTON – Police say a man who walked away from Alberta Hospital staff while on an escorted outing to the Kinsmen Recreation Centre Tuesday was arrested Thursday morning.

After using the washrooms at the rec centre, 29-year-old Justin Caldwell Somers ran away.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest for being unlawfully at large.

Somers was staying at Alberta Hospital after being charged with second-degree murder in 2011 for the death of a fellow inmate at the Edmonton Remand Centre.

Edmonton police issued a request for the public’s help finding Somers Wednesday night, describing him as “dangerous.”

Then, around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, a man called police to report a suspicious person near 156 Street and 107 Avenue. Police say the man saw a photo of the suspect on social media just moments before seeing him in person.
