Ice cream and voting: Social media chatter on Alberta election

EDMONTON – As Albertans headed to the polls on Tuesday, there was an unexpectedly sweet reward for voting in the provincial election.

In a post on its official Twitter account, Calgary ice cream store Village Ice Cream said it would give people a free kids cone on May 5 if they took a selfie outside a polling station.

The deal prompted voters to share their delight on Twitter and Instagram.

Polling station selfies were being shared fast and furiously Tuesday, as Albertans posted photos with their families and even pets. Some emphasized their reasons for voting, while others explained their voting station experiences.
