WATCH ABOVE: Weddings are memorable for any couple. But two Kansas City newlyweds have a unique reason to remember theirs, and as Don Champion reports, that’s thanks to a surprise guest.
A couple of newlyweds were given a wedding they’ll never forget when a rescue helicopter interrupted their nuptials to rescue a climber on a nearby cliff.
Kansas City couple Jihan and David Chesher took eight months to plan a gorgeous beachfront wedding in Malibu, California. It was, apparently, Jihan’s dream to be wed with sand in her toes.
The Cheshers were in the midst of exchanging nuptials Saturday when something very unexpected happened.
“I see the nose of the helicopter coming around the side of the cliff. I grabbed her hands and I said, ‘Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,’” David told CBS.

The helicopter had arrived for a rescue operation. A climber, who later identified himself as Adam, was stuck on a nearby cliff.
The couple couldn’t believe their luck — but made the most of the situation.
“People can’t believe we were laughing, but it was just something out of our control. We’re just glad the climber is okay,” said Jihan.

David and Jihan wound up posing for a number of silly photographs as the rescue team did its work.
They were also visited by the climber after he was successfully rescued. The group exchanged hugs, and probably a few laughs, before the wedding resumed.
