Kelly Hayes/Global News

KELOWNA — Flights from Kelowna to Trail have hit some turbulence with the airline announcing today that its grounding the service.

Last January, Pacific Coastal Airlines announced that it would launching regular flights between the Okanagan and West Kootenays.

At the time, Pacific Coastal said there was demand for the service, but says the numbers failed to materialize.

“The decline is to the point where continuing to provide the service is no longer financially viable and we have had to make the difficult decision to suspend this service, says Pacific Coastal Airlines V.P. of Commercial Services, Spencer Smith.

Pacific Coastal Airlines is suspending the service between Kelowna and Trail effective May 15.

The company says that passengers who have reservations beyond May 15 will be provided a full refund.
