MONTREAL — Do you live in Châteauguay? Did you notice your water was a little on the yellow side over the weekend?
The City of Châteauguay has an explanation: water overconsumption.
“The yellowish colour of the water is due to the strong demand creating a rinsing effect. The water is potable,” city officials tweeted late Sunday evening.
In a statement on its website, the city went to great lengths to reassure residents that despite its colour, the water supply was, in fact, drinkable.
The explanation has been attributed to a “rinsing effect” caused by overconsumption of water.
Last week, the average amount of water consumed was 41,090 cubic metres per day.
However on Saturday, the consumption reached 52,420 cubic metres, and on Sunday, it jumped to 66,545 cubic metres.
“It’s as if we had reached the bottom of the barrel,” said the mayor of Châteauguay, Nathalie Simon.

What’s the answer? The city is asking residents to use less water.
Those residents who have stained clothes after a load of laundry are being advised to visit the Public Works Building (220 Industriel Boulevard), where a stain removal product will be provided.
