Chase RCMP believe the man, 57, and his nephew, 22, were setting night lines for lingcod around 12:30 a.m Saturday “when the wind blew up and waves capsized the vessel.”

Police don’t think either were wearing life jackets however, the nephew was able to swim to shore.

RCMP are advising others to wear personal flotation devices when out on the water.

“The simple advice is to always wear your personal flotation device and at this time of year always be careful for floating objects that are partially submerged such as logs or stumps or anything like that,” says Sgt. Gary Heebner.
