Bracelet blitz fundraiser to help girl needing liver transplant

WINNIPEG – A bracelet blitz fundraiser which will help cover the costs for Allexis Siebrecht’s upcoming liver transplant in Toronto takes place this weekend.

Siebrecht has been struggling with her health since she was three months old, when she was diagnosed with Biliary atresia. Her family says it’s critical she get a transplant soon.

Volunteers will hand out glow-in-the-dark bracelets at various locations around the city from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Each bracelet costs $5. Their goal is to sell 500 bracelets.

Volunteers will be wearing ID lanyards and yellow T-shirts from the Canadian Liver Foundation that say “Please don’t take your organs to heaven because heaven knows we need them here.”

All money raised will go towards the Siebrecht family’s expenses when Allexis gets her transplant in Toronto.

Winnipeg woman Samantha Lussier tried to donate her liver to Siebrecht last month but was not a match.

This is event will be followed by a Help Save Allexis Bud, Spud and Steak Fundraiser on June 11 at The Oak.
