Voters in Stony Plain have elected PC MLAs in every election since 1971 with the exception of 1989, and now, 2015. NDP’s Erin Babcock has taken the seat, beating out PC candidate Ken Lemke.
In 1989, voters also elected an NDP candidate—MLA Stan Woloshyn—but he crossed to the PCs in the middle of his first term and was re-elected three more times.
Aside from Stony Plain, the riding includes the rural Parkland County areas to the west and south of the town.
