TORONTO — Joël Robuchon, one of the world’s most renowned chefs, is coming to Montreal.
Robuchon, 70, announced Tuesday that L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon will open next year at the Casino de Montréal.
“You are well aware, I’m sure, of Montréal’s reputation as a gourmet destination that reaches far beyond the borders of Québec,” he said in an open letter.
“It was therefore an easy decision to select Montréal for my newest restaurant. I’d been thinking about it for some time already.”

Robuchon’s restaurants in Paris, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Las Vegas, Singapore and Bangkok have accumulated a total of 25 Michelin Guide stars — the most for any chef in the world.
The acclaimed chef describes the concept as “a welcoming place with a friendly atmosphere that offers exceptional, yet simply prepared products.”
The new restaurant will open in Spring 2016 in the casino’s Pavillon du Québec.
“The Casino de Montréal’s team is anxiously awaiting their turn to experience the world of a chef with undisputed culinary skills,” said Jean-Pierre Curtat, the Casino’s Executive Chef, in a release.
Robuchon, who was born in France, is also known for hosting cooking shows Cuisinez comme un grand chef and Bon appétit bien sûr and publishing several cookbooks.
The Montreal L’Atelier will be the first in Canada and only the second in North America.
