How Winnipeggers can help Nepal relief efforts

WINNIPEG — The death toll has already surpassed 4,000 people in Nepal with even more feared dead.

Relief efforts are underway to help the survivors.

If you are looking to make a donation, there are several different organizations in Winnipeg collecting for the cause:

Nepali Cultural Society of Manitoba

  • The Nepali Cultural Society of Manitoba represents the around 700 Manitobans of Nepalese decent. On Sunday alone it collected $4,500.
  • It has set up an account at TD Canada banks across Winnipeg to collect donations. You can also email relief2015@nepalicsm.com or visit their website here for more information.

Winnipeg Centre Vineyard

  • The Winnipeg Centre Vineyard church has communities in Nepal it supports. Church members, including Pastor Nathan Rieger from Winnipeg, are distributing rice and other necessities to some of the hardest hit villages outside of Kathmandu.
  • It is collecting donations to help its efforts through their website here.

Mennonite Central Committee

  • The Mennonite Central Committee has set up an online donation page here. It has members on the ground in Kathmandu helping with food and shelter in remote areas.
  • Depending on how the situation progresses, the organization may also be collecting toiletries and other items.
