A statement released by police on Wednesday say the 32-year-old will be monitored by the Edmonton police department behavioural assessment unit.

Offenders who serve their entire sentence are not bound by parole upon their release, and in rare cases police will issue a public warning before an offender is released into the community.

Police released a similar warning about Papastesis when he was released from the Alberta Hospital in 2005, having served a two-year sentence for assault causing bodily harm.

At that time, police said Papastesis had the word “hostile” tattooed on his stomach, and tattoos of bear claws on his forearms. He was also described as having a prosthetic right leg.
