Eyewear trends for 2012

TORONTO – Some iconic eyewear have been immortalized in popular culture like Audrey Hepburn’s oversized “Manhattans” in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Beatles’ front man John Lennon’s signature spectacles, and who can forget Elton John’s tinted shades. While these glasses may have contributed and created some celebs’ personas , they have also become synonymous to its wearer.

And with a gazillion frames out in the market, how does one pick the right pair? Spectacle frame stylist Christina Cheng breaks down some popular eyewear trends to expect for 2012 on Thursday’s edition of The Morning Show.

Universally for women, going with a cat-eye inspired frame adds sophistication and drama to the face. For those with rounder faces, an oversized “Jackie O” shape will not just fit the contour of one’s face but they would able to hide from the sun’s UV rays.

Colour-tinted glasses like blue works well for people with lighter-coloured eyes. Sporty frames, however, can be paired well for guys and girls who are athletically-inclined.

For some who have smaller-sized faces, round frames are advised as they take the focus away from the head shape; while vintage glasses similar to a classic Steve McQueen gives an updated and modern look to the geek chic phenomenon.

But the stand out colour for us will expect to see in 2012: Smokey-grey.
