EDMONTON – One townhouse suite was destroyed in a fire in north Edmonton Saturday.
Crews were called to the fire in the area of 143 Avenue and 80 Street around 1:30 p.m.
“When we arrived our crews were able to initiate a really aggressive attack to the soffits and eaves and contained the fire to the suite of origin,” said Deputy Chief Barry Lamb with Edmonton Fire Rescue.
The fire had spread to the attic, though, so a second alarm was called around 2 p.m.
“Especially with these buildings with common attics, we don’t want the fire to spread so we did access the exterior roof and also we entered from inside, pulling down the roof,” said Lamb.
One man who was inside the home at the time was assessed by EMS crews on scene, but he was not taken to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
At this time it’s not known what caused the fire.
