FREDERICTON – Water levels in the Fredericton area have receded below flood stage, but levels are still high in communities down-river.

Levels in Jemseg and Sheffield are at flood stage and Saint John and Grand Lake are expected to reach flood stage Saturday or Sunday. Levels in Fredericton now sit at 6.38 metres, down from 6.7 metres Thursday.

“We have some water in the parking lot area but the building is safe and secure,” he said. “We’re well prepared and very lucky with the staff that we have, they know exactly what has to be done and when.”

The hotel has had sandbags and a gate set up for the past week, just in case they’re needed.

In Perth-Andover, levels are remaining stable at 75.34 metres after they peaked earlier this week at over 78 metres.

The Village issued a mandatory evacuation order for 48 hours while levels were high.
