Brick Group says Vi Konkle has taken chief executive role

EDMONTON – Former Walmart Canada operations chief Vi Konkle has officially become The Brick Group’s president and chief executive officer.

Konkle joined the Brick (TSX:BRK) in February 2010 as president of business support after previously working as chief operating officer at Walmart Canada (NYSE:WMT) and at Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L).

The appointment is part of a succession plan announced last April. Konkle officially took over as president and CEO from Bill Gregson on Jan. 1. Gregson will remain executive chairman.

“Vi has demonstrated strong leadership and retail acumen at The Brick and I am confident that she will lead the Brick team to continued growth, profitability and relevance to the Canadian customer,” said Gregson Wednesday in a release.

The Brick Group is one of Canada’s largest volume retailers of household furniture, mattresses, appliances and home electronics, operating under five retail banners.
