Son of murdered Calgary businessman gives emotional plea for help

CALGARY – The son of a Calgary businessman who was murdered last year is begging the public to help solve the horrific crime.

Maqsood Ahmed was leaving his business, the Calgary Produce Market, with cash and receipts when he was attacked by two men who robbed him and stabbed him.

It happened in the 4700 block of Westwinds Drive N.E., around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014.

On Tuesday, Ahmed’s oldest son gave a public plea for anyone with information on the murder to come forward.

“We do have a lot of questions, but we know there’s hardly any answers for them,” said Qamar Maqsood.

He says the hardest part is watching his 11-year-old brother come to terms with the death.

“Sometimes when I go to pick him up from school… he tells me that he was hoping dad might just come from somewhere and pick him up,” said Maqsood, holding back tears.

“I got to spend 30 years with [my dad]… he only got 11 years.”

Police have been able to identify four persons of interest, but say they aren’t cooperating with investigators.

On Tuesday, police filmed a Crime Stoppers reenactment with the hopes it will prompt anyone with more information to contact investigators.

“We know that these individuals have talked about this offence,” explained S/Sgt. Colin Chisholm. “We want people to come forward and tell us what they know.”

Investigators say they have recovered one of the vehicles thought to have been used in the robbery. The vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Solara, was recovered in the community of Castleridge shortly after the stabbing.

Police say the vehicle’s owner is one of the persons of interest in the case, and that a search of the car helped them recover “significant forensic evidence.”

Detectives are still looking for a second vehicle which was seen in the area prior to the stabbing. The vehicle is a 2006-2008 silver Pontiac Grand Prix.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877 or Crime Stoppers.
