CALGARY – Police are warning the public about a unique new phone scam in which the victim appears to be receiving a call from RCMP in Airdrie.

The message indicted that the victim had won a contest with travel website Expedia.com, and prompted them to press 1 to claim their prize.

The Airdrie RCMP says they do not participate in phone contests or sweepstakes, and that the call was fake.

They’re asking anyone with information on the scam to contact them by calling 403-945-7267. You can also report the anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

To report any suspicious phone calls of this nature, you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
