UPDATE: Langley man who set estranged wife’s home on fire given jail time

VANCOUVER – A Langley man who set his estranged wife’s home on fire last year, with her and her two children inside, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail minus time served, which should amount to 8.5 years in prison.

Andre Richard was originally charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty last December to the lesser charges.

Police were called to the home in the 19600 block of Wakefield Drive in Langley around 1 a.m. in April, 2014. According to police, Richard broke into the home and started the fire before assaulting his estranged wife in her bedroom. The woman’s daughter tried to break up the fight and was hit with a weapon. The woman, her daughter and son managed to escape the home before it was fully engulfed by flames.
