Marvin Rotrand: Montreal’s newest ‘bad road crusader’

WATCH: Montreal city councillor Marvin Rotrand is frustrated with the number of potholes in his district.

MONTREAL — It’s not everyday the vice chair of the STM decides to tackle the issue of deteriorating asphalt and crumbling infrastructure.

But Marvin Rotrand is fed up.

The city councillor for the Snowdon district in NDG said four different residents have come up to him in the last week demanding something be done about the plethora of broken roads.

“There’s an obligation to make the roads passable and people are coming up to me in NDG who say some of the main streets in NDG are impassable,” Rotrand said.

Borough mayor Russell Copeman insisted he’s well aware of the terrible road conditions and plans to spend $7.5 million to repair the equivalent of 50 street blocks this year: double the amount of previous years.

“Is it enough? No, it’s not enough,” Copeman told Global News.

The city councillor said his borough is trying to catch up to more than 20 years of of under-investment on road work.

It will likely take years to bring NDG roads to an acceptable level of satisfaction for many drivers.

For those drivers hoping to see Terrebonne repaired, they still  have a wait ahead of them.

It’s not scheduled to be fixed until at least 2016.

Borough residents are encouraged to report abnormally large potholes by calling 311 and giving their exact location in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.
