WATCH: Chimp destroys drone in brazen zoo attack

TORONTO – Don’t mess with this chimp. A video posted on YouTube of a primate in a Netherlands zoo swatting at a drone and ultimately destroying it has gone viral.

Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, Netherlands shared the footage Friday that captured the moment a battle nearly broke out between ape and machine. It has since collected over 875,000 views at the time of this writing.

According to the zoo, the group of chimps began arming themselves with sticks the moment the flying drone entered their enclosure. As the device inched its way closer, one chimp connected with a fatal blow.

The drone did not survive the brazen attack but an attached GoPro camera did make it. One primate was brave enough to show his face on camera afterwards – probably to send a message to other drones that have the same idea.

Chimps share 98 per cent of a human’s genetic blueprint, according to National Geographic. The other two per cent, apparently, is reserved for a serious hate-on of machines.
