EDMONTON — A seemingly very well trained rescue dog was recently captured on video tickling the ivories.

In a video posted to YouTube earlier this week, Sadie, a German Shepherd/Border Collie cross from Edmonton, jumps up onto an organ bench, turns on the instrument and starts to play a few notes.

While she’s no Mozart, the six-year-old pup sits tall on the bench and uses her front legs to pound the keys. Listening intently to calls from her owner, Sadie shows her emotions when she makes a mistake by covering her face with her front paw.

After her performance, Sadie turns around on the bench to take a bow, in downward dog, of course.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“What I did was chained a whole bunch of behaviours together,” explained Casi Hofstede, Sadie’s owner, who also owns Anything’s Pawsible, an organization that offers behaviour consultations, training and pet sitting to animal owners.

“First I taught her to jump up on the bench, then I taught her to turn to organ on with her teeth, then actually put her paws up on the organ and play it, and then to stand and take a bow at the end.”

Hofstede says Sadie was surrendered by her owners when she was just seven months old because they didn’t want her any more.

“We have a bond like no other. She’s almost like a child to me.”

Sadie also likes climbing trees and going for walks.
