Winter weather returns to the Greater Toronto Area as Environment Canada issues a special weather statement.
A disturbance developing over the American Midwest will track just south of Lake Erie late today, bringing with it a mixed bag of precipitation.
According to Environment Canada, a band of precipitation, falling primarily as rain in the extreme southwest, will begin this afternoon near Lake Huron and reach eastern Lake Erie and western Lake Ontario towards evening.
Freezing rain can be expected along the eastern shores of Lake Erie.
Environment Canada is reporting that the exact location of the rain-snow boundary and total snow accumulation is still unknown as of 5 a.m.
Snow fall amounts of two to five centimetres are possible from southern Lake Huron to the west end of Lake Ontario.
