WATCH: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking into a suspicious death in Surrey. Jeremy Hunka reports.
Homicide investigators in B.C. have released the identity of a woman whose death is being described as suspicious.
Police found the body of 25-year-old Salamawit Girma in her home in the area of 127 St. and 103 Ave. at 11 p.m. on Friday night. By 1:30 a.m. Saturday, it had been determined her death was suspicious.
“This is not believed to be a random act,” said IHIT spokesperson Stephanie Ashton in a release. “We have no reason to believe residents in the area are at risk at this time.”
Police say the woman’s spouse has been in contact and has so far co-operated fully with the investigation.
Nearby residents told Global News they saw a visually impaired man that lived in the building taken away by police. But at this point, IHIT hasn’t confirmed an arrest.
If you have any information that could help IHIT, you’re asked to call their tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT.
