LETHBRIDGE – Peter Anholt is ready to return to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, although with a little less responsibility this time around.
“I do not plan on coaching next year,” said Anholt, who took over as head coach and general manager of the Hurricanes in December. The team saw marginal improvements under his watch, going 14-26-2-0 after he replaced fired general manager Brad Robson and head coach Drake Berehowsky.
In a one-on-one interview with Global TV, Anholt said he is working towards a new contract with the Hurricanes board of directors. If his deal gets done he has big plans for an overhaul of the hockey department. “Two real important hires for this organization, after my situation is clarified, is the head scout and the head coach.”

In a short time span Anholt has already put his stamp on the club. Between Christmas and the WHL trade deadline on January 10 he made 11 roster moves, sending out 8 players and 2 draft picks in exchange for 5 players and 4 bantam draft picks.
Many of those picks will come into play this spring at the WHL bantam draft. The Hurricanes retained the second overall pick after Spokane won the draft lottery Wednesday afternoon.
“Usually when you’re picking in the top 5 or 6, you’re going to end up with a real good player,” said Anholt. “We expect that we can add a building block again to the organization here.
