WATCH: A new online test is helping British Columbians get screened for hearing loss from the comfort of their homes. Elaine Yong explains.
New technology is allowing British Columbians to get an ear checkup with just a couple clicks of the mouse.
“I never thought technology would improve for this,” says Mandy Fisch, a Mainland Hearing Registered Audiologist.
Mainland Hearing provides a free online hearing test, which also can help people determine whether they need a follow-up with an audiologist like Fisch.
And if they do, she’s able to have meetings with patients through a virtual doctor’s clinic app.
It’s estimated one in three people suffer from hearing loss – and this virtual house call is just one way she’s hoping to get them diagnosed earlier.
“Recent research has shown that people wait an average of 7-10 years when they suspect they might have hearing loss before they come in for treatment,” says Fisch.
