Bank donation helps carve out new Inuit art centre at WAG

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Art Gallery is one step closer to creating an Inuit Art Centre.

TD Bank Group has donated $500,000 to the project to support the Artist-in-Residence and Printmaking Studio at the planned 400,000 square foot centre.

At 13,000 pieces, the WAG has the largest collection of contemporary Inuit art however because of space restrictions only a small percentage can be displayed at any given time.

The WAG has been fundraising for the Inuit Art Centre and hopes it will be a link between the North and the South. It would be located just south of the WAG’s current location and will cost a total of $60 million to build.

TD Bank says contributing to the project is important. The bank has been collecting Inuit art almost 50 years ago and believes it has one of the largest corporate holdings of its kind.
