TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission is meeting today to discuss and approve a budget and schedule change for the Spadina subway extension.

A report released by the Toronto’s transit agency last week said the project is currently $150 million over budget and will be delayed by at least two years.

A report being presented at the meeting suggests finding an external project manager and allowing sole-source management to avoid futre overspending on future infrastructure projects.

Construction of the subway tunnel is 70 per cent finished and is now expected to open by 2017 or 2019 at the latest.

The TTC said funding delays, problems found underground, contractor delays, and a worker death attributed to the extra costs.
