Paramedics testify at Meika Jordan murder trial

CALGARY- First responders testified at the Meika Jordan trial in Calgary Wednesday, as the first-degree murder trial for the father and stepmother of the six-year-old continued.

Spencer Jordan and Marie Magoon are accused of killing Meika in November of 2011.

After two days of keeping a brave face, grief overwhelmed Meika’s mother, Kyla Woodhouse.

It was the first time Woodhouse was allowed to listen in on the trial of her daughter’s accused killers, but nothing could prepare her for the traumatic details.

“I’ve literally gone through every worst case scenario for the past three years to actually know first-hand what they did to her,” Woodhouse said. “It’s beyond words or any emotion I could ever try to come up with.”

The court heard from paramedics who arrived at Jordan and Magoon’s Temple home to find the young girl unconscious.

A veteran paramedic testified Meika was found in the basement of the home, lying feet away from a set of stairs.

Paramedics had been told that Meika had fallen down the stairs, but testified that story didn’t match the young girl’s injuries.

Meika had no pulse and her heart was not beating.

“She was actually dead when they arrived at the house that night,” Woodhouse said.

Paramedics were able to intubate her, but were unable to get her to breathe on her own.

Meika was rushed to hospital but died the following day, Nov. 14, 2011.

“I think that’s my own saving grace, that they were able to get her to hospital and doctors were able to keep her body alive at least long enough to say the final goodbyes,” Woodhouse said.

The Crown is expected to continue to present evidence against Jordan and Magoon for the rest of the week.
