TORONTO – Environment Canada has ended a special weather statement for Toronto due to the likelihood of freezing rain for Wednesday morning.

Warnings were issued for parts of southern Ontario, extending from Sarnia to Halton-Peel on Tuesday afternoon.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

However, a freezing rain warning remains in effect for Halton-Peel Region as well as parts of Southwestern Ontario.

The weather service says a developing low pressure system originating in Colorado is forecast to track across the Central Great Lakes.

The precipitation is expected to hit early Wednesday morning and may mean tricky driving conditions for motorists.

Environment Canada predicts some areas to receive between two to five millimetres of ice accumulation.

Warmer air later in the day will change the freezing rain into rain as the system tapers off.
