Officers are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
“We don’t have any eyewitnesses that have come forward to us yet,” explains Staff Sgt. Paul Stacey. “We’re hoping that we will have some at some point. In the absence of that, we have our collision reconstruction crews out here and our traffic section.”
The westbound lanes of 16th Avenue were closed between 4th and 6th Street N.E. for several hours as police investigated.
Police are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses and video surveillance from a taxi that passed through the area.
“We had a cab that went through but didn’t see the collision happen,” explains Stacey. “Went through, saw the body… and then we asked that cab to come back and view the footage from the cab to see if there’s anything we can take from that.”
Paramedics also found an unconscious male near the scene, but it’s unknown if the two incidents are related.
