Bear on the loose in downtown Vancouver tranquilized

Many people likely couldn’t believe what they were seeing Monday afternoon: a black bear on the loose in downtown Vancouver.

The bear was first spotted on top of a garbage truck at Cambie and West Georgia, near the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, just after 3 p.m.

Vancouver Police and conservation members tranquilized the bear. There’s no word on how the bear got downtown.

The bear was removed from downtown Vancouver by police escort and will be released back into the wild.
