Nova Scotia chips in $200,000 to help land high-profile golf event

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s $200,000 contribution towards landing a high-profile golf event next summer will give the province valuable international exposure, Tourism Minister Percy Paris said Monday.

The Glen Arbour Golf Course near Halifax will host the 20th anniversary Telus World Skins Game from July 29-31.

“I think this is going to net in the millions of dollars for Nova Scotia … in the way of advertising and visitations,” said Paris.

He said the province’s contribution would go towards marketing and advertising of the event, although he couldn’t specifically say what the money would be spent on.

Jennifer Gavin, a spokeswoman for the Tourism Department, said the province will receive several promotional rights, including five hours of national broadcast exposure on TSN.

She said the event will create a $1.5-million direct benefit for the province.

Conservative tourism critic Eddie Orrell said the lack of detail was troubling.
