OTTAWA – A funeral service is being held today in Ottawa for the Canadian soldier killed in Iraq last week.

Sgt. Andrew Doiron died in what the military has termed a friendly fire incident.

Members of the military carried Doiron’s urn into Ottawa’s Notre-Dame Cathedral this morning. A large Canadian flag was suspended from cranes on the backs of two fire trucks, and other flags in the area were at half-mast.

Doiron’s body was returned home on Tuesday.

He was shot and killed by Kurdish troops as his special forces unit was returning to an observation post a week ago. Three other Canadian soldiers were wounded.
