Okanagan residents reminded to book campsites

KELOWNA – Camping enthusiasts are being reminded that B.C.’s camping reservation system is opening up on Sunday, March 15.  However, fees for this year’s camping season at provincial campgrounds are going up. The increase ranges from $2 to $5 per night.   The ministry responsible says the fee hike is necessary to maintain the high level of service in the parks which are seeing more visitors every year.

For the first time, spots can be reserved at campsites in Summit Lake, Juniper Lake, Whiskers Point and Kootenay Lake provincial parks.  More campsites are also available in Mount Robson and Kentucky Alleyne provincial parks.

Also new this year, Haynes Point and Okanagan Falls provincial parks are now being managed by the Osoyoos Indian Band.  The Province and the OIB are working to have both parks open April 1, 2015.  However, the campground in Okanagan Falls remains on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Reservations can be made through the Discover Camping website or through the call centre at 1-800-689-9025.  Up to three reservations can be made in one transaction. The reservation system opens at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 15.
