WEST KELOWNA — There will be controlled burning in the Central Okanagan on Wednesday to dispose of fire hazard debris. The Regional District of the Central Okanagan (RDCO) says burning is underway in Rose Valley Regional Park off of Pettman and Bowes Roads in West Kelowna thanks to good air quality and venting conditions.
Debris which was collected as part of an annual B.C. Wilfire Management Branch fire hazard mitigation program will be burned on a 10 hectare section in the northern portion of the regional park.
“Additional controlled burns will be required to dispose of fire hazard debris collected along a four kilometre section of trail in Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park as a result of the 2012 wildfire,” says Smith.
There may be temporary trail closures as a result of the project in Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park.
