VERNON – A word of caution to Vernon residents after a dust advisory issued on Monday has been continued. The Ministry of Environment says anyone with chronic medical conditions should avoid strenuous physical activity until the advisory is lifted.

The Ministry of Environment has not ended the Dust Advisory for Vernon “due to the high concentrations of coarse particulates which are expected to persist until there is a chance in current weather conditions,” says Tarek Ayache, Air Quality Meteorologist with the Ministry of Environment.
He says particulate exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and anyone with diabetes, lung or heart disease.
The ministry reports the average particulate load over the past day in Vernon is 67 micrograms per cubic metre which is 17 micrograms over the provincial air quality objective.
